Gontse, a teacher of the Tibetan language, was arrested on 14 August 2022 at his home in Kakhog/Khyungchu (Ch: Hongyuan) County, Ngaba (Ch: Aba) Tibetan and Qiang Autonomous Prefecture, Sichuan Province, in the Tibetan province of Amdo.

No information is available on his current whereabouts. The Chinese authorities gave no explanation for his arrest to his family and friends. Gontse previously shared on his social media, videos and other images of the Chinese government’s inhumane treatment of people in Lhasa during the lockdown. All of Gontse’s social media accounts remain deleted.
