Thupten Yeshi, 58-year old, was released on 5 July 2007 from Chushul Prison [Ch: Qushui] after completing his 15-year prison sentence.
In 1992, Yeshi put up pro-independence posters on neighbourhood tree in Dashang Township, Gyama County, Meldrogungkar County in TAR. Another incident in the same year in June happened where Lhundup Dorjee, Sonam Dorjee, Sonam Rinchen (Thupten Yeshi's brother in-law) and Kunchok Rinchen disrupted a political reeducation meeting in the village.Thupten Yeshi was suspected to be the ringleader of the demonstrations despite the fact that he had not participated. In July 1992, he was arrested and detained for more than three months in Gutsa Detention Centre. On 20 October 1992, Lhasa Intermediate People's Court sentenced him to 15 years in prison and five years' deprivation of civil and political rights.
