Tashi Dhargyal engaged in a protest with hundreds of protestors on the streets of Drango County and called for the return of the 14th Dalai lama and freedom in Tibet. On 23 January 2012, Tibetans were detained for participating in protests against Communist rule in Drango (Ch: Luhuo) County, Kardze Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture. Six people died during the violence; scores more were wounded and injured. It was later learned that Tashi Dhargyal was sentenced to 13 years in prison, there is no information on the charges.
