Drukbum was detained in July 2018 and released on 1 July 2022 after completing his sentence. He was released with Tashi Tsering. No details are available yet regarding the condition of their health after their release and the authorities continue to monitor their movements.

He was among the nine Tibetans were sentenced for founding an “evil organisation” to engage in “forced business transaction”, “extortion and deceit” and “disturb social order by mobilising support from the public.”
