In 1997 during a visit to Drapchi Prison by a delegation of United Nations Commission on Arbitrary Detention. Kyil Khar, Sonam Tsewang from Meldro County and Wangdu from Sakya County demonstrated a protest shouting slogans for long live of the Dalai Lama and for Tibet's independence. Their prison sentences were extended by further five years however information regarding their original sentences and charges remain unknown.
