Description of event

Police suspected that Pema Gonpo passed information on “local conditions” (e.g. ; the political and security environment) in Ganzi county to unidentified contacts in India. Authorities allegedly tortured Pema Gonpo during interrogation using methods including beating ; suspension from the ceiling ; and moving him between hot and cold rooms.

When his health began to fail he was treated at hospitals in Seda and Kangding (Dartsedo) ; the Ganzi TAP capital. His condition deteriorated further ; and on August 8 authorities released him to family members for care.
