On 12 September 2023, Tsebo in his sixties, along with his mother, wife, and son were on the way to attend a four-day Kalachakra teaching being conferred by the 7th Gungthang Rinpoche, Lobsang Jamyang Gelek Tenpai Khenchen. While stopping for lunch at a restaurant in Tridu County (Chinese: Chenduo) in Yushu Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, local Chinese police officials interrogated them. During the interrogation, they were asked to register if they intended to attend the Kalachakra teachings.
After they had successfully registered, they were informed that they would not be permitted to attend the Kalachakra.
Tsebo was told that as a member of the Communist Party and for being a former police officer, it was against the national law to attend such a religious event. Moments after the order, he was forcibly taken to a police station and there is no information on his current whereabouts.
