Tibetan writer Rongwo Gendun Lhundup, 48, has been sentenced to four years in prison on the trumped-up charge of “inciting separatism”. The writer was sentenced on 1 December 2021 by the Xining Intermediate People’s Court. In addition to four years of fixed-term imprisonment, he was sentenced to two years of “deprivation of political rights”.
Rongwo Gendun Lhundup has been detained and interrogated on several occasions by Chinese security officials.Writing under the pseudonym ‘Lhamkok’ (Eng: Shoe), Rongwo Gendun Lhundup was detained by Chinese security officers on 11 November 2020 from Rongwo Monastery in Rebkong (Ch: Tongren) City, Malho (Ch: Huangnan) Tibetan Autonomous Prefecture, Qinghai Province.
Since his detention, he had been held in an undisclosed location for almost two years.
