Gonpo was a former monk at Tawu Monastery.In 1994, he pasted pro-independence posters on the walls of the Chinese police station, banks and on electric poles. After five years, he was arrested by four police officers while he was Tawu police market. He was taken to tawu police station and was detained for 10 months. He was later sentenced to 12 years in Sheduk Kyang prison.
