Lobsang has been arrested on three occasions. His first arrest was for driving from Lhasa to Tibet- Nepal Border to receive books and photographs of the Dalai Lama. Consequently he was incarcerated for three months. After his release he formed an organisation called "Dedication Association", a title inspired by the Dalai Lama. This organisation was formed to distribute speeches and information on the Dalai Lama to the Tibetan public within Tibet. Another arrest in July 1997 took place where he was released due to lack of evidence. In August 1998 the police came and seized all evidence and arrested Lobsang and Gonpo. As a result of torture during the detention in Ngaba Detention Centre he is paralysed in one of his legs, he was unable to attend his trial and was sentenced to 3 years which the authorities allowed him to serve as house arrest due to the injuries he sustained.
