On 5 March 2024, Phuntsok from Lhundup County, Shigatse (Ch: Xigaze) city, Tibet Autonomous Region was arbitrarily arrested on the alleged accusation of sending secret documents and had been disappeared. While travelling to Lhundup County on the same day, three local police officers suddenly arrested him.

When Phuntsok's family and relatives asked the authorities for his whereabouts and the reason for his arrest, they were ignored, and any hope of visiting Phuntsok had been denied. His current status and whereabouts remained unknown.

Phuntsok, who is 47 years old, hails from Lhundup County, Shigatse (Ch: Xigaze) city, Tibet Autonomous Region. He and his wife have a 15-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old boy. Phuntsok was falsely accused due to his criticism of the local leader's disregard for people's well-being.
