On 25 October 2023, Samphel was called to the police station in Gidhong township, Sakya County, Shigatse City, Tibetan Autonomous Region. Upon his arrival, his mobile phone was confiscated and subjected to a search. Subsequently, the police proceeded to question him on various matters, including an alleged accusation of initiating a Buddhist Group on a social media platform. He was taken by Local police to the Shigatse police station, and since then his current whereabouts remain unknown.
