In 2023, a Tibetan monk Tenzin Khenrab, 29, well known by his pen name, Dhong Rangchak was forcefully arrested by Chinese authorities for possessing a photo of Tibet’s spiritual leader, the Dalai Lama, on his phone and several e-books of the revered Buddhist Lama. He continues to be held incommunicado since his arrest last year and his whereabouts and health status remain unknown.

On 17 February 2024, the mother of a Tibetan writer and political detainee passed away as her depression worsened at the age of 53.
