On 3 February 1992, Ngawang Wangdol walked down to Lhasa and shouted slogans in praise of His Holiness the Dalai Lama. She was arrested, interrogated and tortured while in detention. She was detained in Gutsa prison for more than almost three years before her release in September 1995.
